Whatcom Watersheds Information Network, or WWIN, will host Whatcom Water Week from September 10th-18th! This event celebrates local water resources by showcasing water’s importance in all aspects of our lives with lots of fun and educational events. A We Scoop photo contest and prize drawing will reward participants who take photos of their dogs with handy scooping prizes. The plastic Matters community event features a weeklong plastic litter pick-up competition, with chances for prizes. The recycled plastics will be on display at SeaCycle sculptures made by local artists.
The Habitat Photo project will help monitor two habitat restoration sites in Bellingham. There will be educational signs at the sites and a prize drawing for a $50 gift card that participants can enter once they have submitted photos of the sites. A community work party at Whatcom Creek will help to restore salmon habitat and clean up a trail behind Bellingham’s City Hall. This week will also mark the 10th annual Run with the Chums which includes a 5k run and a Smolt Sprint for youth participants. There will also be watershed information exhibits, kids’ activities, refreshments, and water conservation prizes. There are even more events making up this week-long celebration of water so check them all out! For more information: https://www.whatcomwin.org/water-week-events
